Mission

“...and Mission”

Mission is about ‘reaching out’.  There are a number of ways in which we do that beyond our own life together.

NSW Disaster Recovery Chaplaincy Network:

Ministry Team Leader,  Rev. Dr. Stephen Robinson is the Coordinator of the NSW Disaster Recovery Chaplaincy Network. This newly-formed group works within the NSW disaster recovery plan, to allocate chaplains to care within evacuation and disaster recovery centres following events of great trauma to communities across the state (for more information click here).  The church supports this work in many ways, from administration, practical assistance in training, knitting trauma teddies, creating holding crosses and prayer support.

Indonesia:

In November 2010 our first Mission Team went to Indonesia to work with the local churches and to do practical ministry.  A further Mission Team went to Indonesia in November 2012 to teach, preach and minister in a practical way to a number of churches on Yogyakarta. The Mission Team also was ministered to by the Christians in Indonesia. The church will support this work through 2012.

See below photos of LPUC Mission Team in Indonesia - the Team is Robbie, James, Heather, Greg and Chris. While in Indonesia they have been fellowshipping with the Family of God Church and the Agape Church in Yogyakarta and repairing houses and a church damaged in recent earthquake.

Support of Scripture Teacher at Peakhurst High School:

Lugarno Peakhurst Uniting has been supporting the work of the Scripture Teacher at Peakhurst High School since its inception in 1985.

Samaritan's Purse Christmas Boxes:

Operation Christmas Child (OCC) is a unique project of Samaritan’s Purse that brings joy and hope to children in desperate situations around the world through gift-filled shoe boxes. It provides an opportunity for people of all ages to be involved in a simple but hands-on project that has the power to transform children’s lives. In 2009, our teams in Australia and New Zealand collected over 300,000 gift-filled shoe boxes that were delivered to South East Asia and the South Pacific. Globally, Samaritan’s Purse distributed an estimated 7.6 million shoe boxes to children Samaritan’s in 105 countries. As each shoe box gift is delivered, it is treasured by the child that receives it, and is a lasting reminder that he or she is precious to God.

Lugarno Peakhurst Uniting has been involved in this for 8 years. See Samaritan's Purse website for more information.

We are constantly aware that God has the capacity to open up new areas of mission as the need and heart arise, and we seek to be open to God’s guidance as we are resourced and led.
